Here we have the complete Fairlight CMI IIX library all ready to be loaded in Kontakt. For those unaware, the Fairlight was the mother of all samplers with 8-note polyphony, 16 kB of memory, sequencer and MIDI, it was a complete workstation that offered ways to produce sounds unheard before. Some notable users include Art Of Noise, Peter Gabriel, Jan Hammer, Jean-Michel Jarre, Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran among others. Here’s some links of interest:This library is a 152MB download (470MB uncompressed), and it includes 502 nki patches with precise looping where applicable, 1,001 16/44 MONO WAV samples, and some custom scripting to allow the control of the low-pass filter, bit crusher, mono with unison and portamento, and all can be switched off to completely bypass them. These samples and patches are undressed, raw, aliased and warmly old-school. They were recorded from the original factory floppies and from the output of an actual Fairlight by Rob Brady.

Here’s some caps showing the faceplates and categories for the sounds:Even thought this is been offered for free, I would gladly accept donations. As you can imagine, it took endless hours of looping, editing an pasting code into 502 NKIs. So if you find this useful, please click on the button:I would also appreciate any comments, suggestions, bug reports, marriage proposals or death threats. If you happen to use these sounds in a song, I’d love to take a listen too.And now without further ado, the download link:Enjoy!
Click to expand.Oh My Goodness.MarioD Thank you so much. The Fishman triple play is exactly what I had envisioned.-One question, if I use Kontakt, which tripleplay say is supported. When I download new VST will it integrate seamlessly?Since it seems VSTs made in Kontakt are more for a piano key based play rather than for the fretboard of a guitar. The only thing holding me back from getting the triple play right now is that fear. That the only VSTs that will work are those either made by Fishman or by others specifically for a Guitar MIDI medium. Click to expand.I see.So which 61 keyboard would you suggest? I cant exactly tell what to look for when Ive only played the guitar.-Regarding the restrictions of the guitar in recording cinematic music, I dont want to come off as saying anything is wrong or right butI really just want to know the reasons behind why you guys all are saying a keyboard is better.I mean, most producers use a keyboard so there has to be more Pros in the KB than Pros in a guitar right?-So in addressing each of the PROs stated,1) I'm not entirely sure of why a fader knob is strongly necessary for cinematic scores?Cant faders be applied very simply in the DAW? (Without extensive use of time)2) Key switches as well, from what I've seen, dont seem to be controlled by turning of knobs but rather done in the Kontakt window and then set each instrument in the same group then within that indicate to C0 -G0, etc.How are CC knobs supposed to do that?Aren't the only reason to do key switches is to save MIDI spaces in the DAW right? Since we can easily layer on different VSTi's without the use of Keyswitches, instead we would be using more MIDI slots.3) 'Automation's are an easier way to adjust the overall volume of the audio and is usually done in post production after recording of the instrument has finished.' Umm.workflow-wise, if you are on guitar.then it is going to be something like:1. Tweak filters freq.
Pickup the pick3. Oh.still too much high freq5. Return to 1If you think that is fast enough, then i wish you the best.plus.can you play the following chords without open string on a standard guitar?dim chords with 151351voicingMaj chords with 135151, 135131voicing.etcwith kontakt script you can turn cc to notes, and i think midi-ox can do that ad wellBtw, my guitar playing is at least semi-pro, light years ahead than my kb skill, yet i consider kb more important than giitar regarding digital music production. I am in the same boat as SouLcRusaDerka, that is my guitar and bass skills far exceed my keyboard skills. The only time that I use my MIDI guitar controller is when playing some lines that I can't play on my keyboard and/or wind controller.
These are usually the faster lines. If you buy a keyboard controller be sure you get one with faders and knobs. When playing monophonic instruments you can use these tools for adjusting the sound(s) live; this is usually more realistic than drawing in the automation. If you have the money you might want to get both a guitar and keyboard controller. A friend just bought a M-Audio Oxygen 49 keyboard controller for $150 USD. Note that a 61 or more keys are better but he has assigned the keyswitches to the drum pads on the keyboard. I did the same thing with my old MK-449C keyboard and my Akai MPD 18 drum pad controller.Try a couple of those guitar to MIDI software programs. Some people say the latest versions work fine. If they work for you then for under $300 USD you will have the best of both worlds.
I say this, as the transition from guitar to keyboard is painfully slow here but YMMV.Good luck. Click to expand. You sure can. Change the MIDI mapping for each string.
When you save it as a patch, you can switch in and out effortlessly. In fact, you can jump from tuning to tuning on the fly.If anything, I really enjoy it when people say that you have to have a keyboard. I've used a GR-55 for a few years controlling various software instruments and do things that far outweigh my keyboard skills. There are also things that can be done on a guitar controller far easier than a keyboard controller. I have a digital piano and a M-Audio Oxygen controller and I use them when I WANT to play things on a keyboard (sometimes, playing on a keyboard gives me new and/or different perspectives). However, I use my guitar for putting down pads, piano type lines and whatever else I need in pretty much the majority of times.
Plus, as a guitarist, I will often apply some finger style techniques with certain sounds. Stuff that I personally would have lots of issues doing on my keyboards.jord.
