I'm using a MacBook Pro now, but it is noisy so I am getting a ssd version. Willhom 821-00010-A PCIe SSD Flex Cable Connector Adapter. May 09, 2016  Obviously, a PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe SSD is the best in terms of performance, but, it might not be great on the wallet, or even for power consumption. In this review, we are going to look at four M.2 SSD.

Booting NVME requires a fairly recent core UEFI version (2.3.1) which the OEM has to update for. Generally speaking this means only the skylake 100-series along with some 9-series or X99/C612 boards and only if the vendor bothers to release it.

YMMV widely based on OEM and board model.I wouldn't count on HP/Dell/etc releasing updates for any system that they don't currently sell with NVME drive options, they will be glad to have a sales rep call you about a new server thoughI've yet to see any X79/C602 get updated to this, I think same goes for 8/C22x/C21x series or older. Geektool mac. The taiwan OEMS that sell retail might eventually have updates for some of the enthusiast/gamer boards (asus hinted its flagship X79 might get updates) but wouldn't hold your breath for much else.Plain old mounting the drive is pretty easy, just needs a driver and relatively recent OS version.
